OCI starts supplying Lanxess with low-carbon ammonia

Quantum Commodity Intelligence - OCI Global has started supplying Lanxess with "lower carbon ammonia," the Netherlands-headquartered firm said Wednesday.

The ammonia is going to Lanxess' Leverkusen production site, via Rotterdam.

"The ammonia is supplied by OCI, leveraging our distribution capabilities and our Rotterdam ammonia import hub," the OCI statement said.

The Dutch firm did not specify the origin or volume of the ammonia, or whether it qualifies as blue or green.

"Sustainable procurement is a key theme for Lanxess and this agreement is another important step in their journey towards climate neutrality," OCI continued.

OCI also noted that it is "ready to scale" the Rotterdam ammonia import terminal to a 2 million mt/yr throughput, and can distribute across Europe via truck, rail or barge.
