Quantum Commodity Intelligence - US industrial gases producer Air Products said that it will shift focus for its offtake from the Saudi NEOM project to green ammonia sales, while the regulatory environment for green hydrogen continues to develop.

In the company's Q2 2025 earnings, Air Products said that its offtake from NEOM will "focus on green ammonia sales until regulations develop for green hydrogen" that the company expects will be around 2030 before this occurs.

Air Products also said that it would "delay European downstream investments until regulatory frameworks are clear."

The NEOM Green Hydrogen Company (NGHC), a joint venture between Air Products with ACWA Power and NEOM, is planned to produce around 600 mt/day (219,000 mt/year) of green hydrogen in the form of green ammonia - Air Products is the exclusive offtaker of the green hydrogen produced in the form of green ammonia (1.2 million mt/year) from the facility.

Furthermore, Air Products also said that its Louisiana blue ammonia project would have "no new commitments" but that it would continue to pursue the project, but would include a "derisking strategy."

Air Products has recently cancelled three projects in the US in California, New York, and Texas, and has also flagged several more projects as "underperforming" including ,blue hydrogen projects in Canada, a blue hydrogen project in Rotterdam, and a green hydrogen project in Arizona.

The moves are part of the company's shift to reducing capital spend from $5 billion in FY2025 to $2.5bn in FY 2030.
