Passengers flying from US airports hits one-year high
London (Quantum Commodity Intelligence) - Passengers flying from US airports hit a year high on Sunday, although the number was still 34% lower than two-year ago, data from the US Department of Transport shows.
Some 1.851 million people went through border checkpoints at US airport on May 16, up from 1.6 million in early May.
The seven-day moving average of passenger numbers also hit a year high of 1.595 million to extend a trend since late April.
The seven-day moving average has gained every day since April 27 and is 16% up since the start of the month.
The Covid-19 pandemic has created a trans-Atlantic split in jet demand.
US passenger traffic is expected to hit 2019 levels in the second half of the year, while European demand will languish around 50% below pre-pandemic levels.
