UK pump sales of gasoline drop lower for second week in a row

London (Quantum Commodity Intelligence) - Pump sales for gasoline in Great Britain have dropped for the second week running, while diesel sales only recovered half of the losses from a week earlier, data from the UK department of Business, Energy and Industrial strategy showed Thursday.

The news follows Wednesday's jump in inflation, which was up 2.1% in May year-on-year, largely on the back of rising transport costs, said the Office of National Statistics.

Average daily sales of gasoline at a filling station in England, Scotland and Wales dropped to 6,810 litres a day over the week to June 13, down 146 litres from a week earlier.

This was the second week of falls after average gasoline sales dropped 156 litres a day over the week to June 6.

Average diesel sales at a filling station rose to 9,665 litres a day over the week to June 13, up 354 litres over the week.

But this was less than half the drop of 758 litres a day seen over the week to June 6.

Both retail gasoline and diesel sales in the UK have yet to recover to levels seen before the lockdown of March 2020.
