Toll road data shows July traffic increases across Europe and Americas

Quantum Commodity Intelligence – Toll road data from operator Atlantia showed traffic volume increases in the first week of July almost across the board in its European and Americas franchises, with Italy reaching the closest to 2019 levels this year and Brazil returning to above 2019 figures.

Usage of the company's 3,256 km of roads in Italy gained 4 percentage points (pp) across the week ending July 4 to 3.3% below the 2019 level, leaving it also just under 6 pp better than the June average, according to the data released late Wednesday.

Spain and France made 1.8 pp and 3.1 pp gains respectively to 4.6% and 10.5% below 2019 figures, and 3.6 pp and 2.1 pp higher than the June average.

Atlantia operates 1,105 km of roads in Spain and 1,768 km in France.

Meanwhile, usage of the company's 4,321 km of roads in Brazil returned to above 2019 levels again after 2 weeks in negative territory, at +1.2%, up 4.1 pp on the week and compared to a -1% June average.

Chile's 1,100 km saw a 3.3 pp weekly gain to 12.6% below, up from a June average of -10.2%.

Mexico was the only territory not to make a weekly gain but its 876 km have seen usage above 2019 levels for 10 consecutive weeks now.

Toll road statistics there dropped 0.9 pp to 3.4% over 2019, which compares to a 3.7% June average.
