TOLL DATA: Road usage in Italy, Spain, Brazil and France falls w/e July 11

Quantum Commodity Intelligence - Motorway toll data from global operator Atlantia showed usage of its roads in Italy, Spain, Brazil and Mexico - some 9,500 km - slipping over the week to July 11, although statistics for Italy and Spain remained above the June average.

Travel on Italy's 3,256 km was down 3.1 percentage points on the week at 6.4% below the 2019 level and compared with a June average of 9.2% below.

Spain's 1,105 km saw usage fall 2.7 pp to -7.3%, while the June average was -8.2%.

Meanwhile, Brazil headed into negative territory versus 2019 again after several weeks of seesawing, dropping 3.1 pp to -1.9% over the 4,321 km of motorway, while June's average was -1%.

Mexico just about stayed in the black at +0.5% versus 2019 after a 2.9 pp fall, extending its run in positive territory to 11 weeks, but this was down significantly from the +3.7% June average.

France and Chile were the only territories of the Atlantia's main six operations to see gains in toll usage on the week, with France gaining 5.1 pp to -5.4% and Chile rising 12.6 pp to 0%, or flat versus 2019.

This compares to June averages of -12.6% and -10.2% for France and Chile respectively, where the company operates 1,768 km and 1,100 km of roads.
