Spain crude oil imports in April down 4.1% on month, 21.9% from 2019
London - (Quantum Commodity Intelligence) – Spain imported 4.295 million mt of crude oil in April, down 16.7% on the year and down 4.1% on the month, according to data released Wednesday by the country's Petroleum Products Strategic Reserves Corporation (CORES).
The country imported 5.497 million mt of crude mt in April 2019, pre-pandemic, leaving this year's figure 21.9% lower compared to two years ago.
Mexico was the largest supplier during the period with 657,000 mt, although this was still down 35.7% on the year.
Nigeria and Libya were the next largest suppliers with 511,000 mt and 477,000 mt respectively, while Canada sent its highest monthly amount since March 2018 at 283,000 mt.
Cumulative imports for the year-to-date were 17.343 million mt, a drop of 13.7% from the same period in 2020 and 22.6% from the first four months of 2019.
Spain has been in a pandemic-related state of emergency since October last year, but this was lifted on May 9 after the government took the decision to place greater reliance on vaccinations as rates increased.
