Saudi Arabia halts attempted boat attack in Red Sea: Saudi Press Agency
London (Quantum Commodity Intelligence) - Saudi Arabian military have stopped an attempted attack in the Red Sea by a Houthi militia explosive-laden boat Monday, according to a report by the Saudi Press Agency.
A boat belonging to the Houthi militia, which operates out of Yemen, was intercepted in the south of the Red Sea, said the report.
If successful, the attack could have caused considerable disruption to one of the world's most important shipping lanes, for both oil and other shipments which pass through the Suez canal.
The attack was the latest in a line of attempts, mostly unsuccessful, by the militia to disrupt Saudi Arabia's oil and gas industry since hostilities in the region broke, including rocket and drone attacks on Saudi facilities and infrastructure as well as explosive seaborne vessels.
The Arab Parliament, the legislative body of the region's Arab League, was quick to condemn the attack, warning that the "'Iran-backed" Houthi militia "continues to threaten maritime shipping lines and global trade in the Red Sea."
The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Dr Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen also "strongly condemned" the attempted attack.
