Pump sales of diesel and gasoline edge closer to pre-pandemic levels
London (Quantum Commodity Intelligence) - Retail sales of diesel in Great Britain edged higher in the 7 days to May 23 to 93% of pre-Covid-19 levels, while gasoline sales improved to 90%, data from the UK government showed Thursday.
The move comes after a dip this month and sales have now recovered close to levels last seen in late April and early May.
A filling station's average diesel sales reached around 9,687 litres per day while gasoline sales reached 6,523 litres per day over the seven days to May 23, up 147.4 and 242 litres per day respectively from the seven-day average on May 16.
Diesel sales were still lower than late April and early May when the seven-day average was around 9,800 litres per day, but the figures were boosted travelling during the bank holiday weekend.
They fell sharply in the first week of May and have been clawing ground back since.
Gasoline sales followed a similar pattern.
