London (Quantum Commodity Intelligence) – Oman's Duqm Refinery and Petrochemical Industries Company (OQ8) said Monday that its new refinery is now 80% complete, and on course to start operations in 2022.

The refinery is a joint venture between Oman and Kuwait, with Kuwait expected to supply 65% of the crude oil and the remaining 35% from Iran.

However, the refinery will have the flexibility to process other grades of crude oil as the nearby Ras Markaz Crude Oil Park is developed into a major storage hub.

The Duqm region is being developed into a major industrial hub.

Oman has two existing refineries, one at the crude oil export terminal of Mina al Fahal near Muscat, and the other at Sohar.
