London, (Quantum Commodity Intelligence) – Indian crude oil throughput in May fell 7.7% compared to a month earlier, according to data from the country's Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell, as local restrictions to combat the spread of Covid-19 were enforced.
India, the world's third-largest oil consumer, processed 18.97 million mt, or 4.467 million bpd, according to the figures, down from 4.84 million bpd a month earlier and 12% below the May 2019 level.
The figures show the impact the local restrictions had on fuel demand, with the average crude throughput in the first four months of this year 4.945 million bpd.
Crude throughput in India is around 13% below the 2019 pre-pandemic level, which was averaging just over 5 million bpd.
