INDIA DATA: Gasoline, diesel sales stay steady in 1H July v June

Quantum Commodity Data – Sales of gasoline and diesel in India were broadly steady during the first two weeks of July versus June, according to preliminary data, as the country maintains healthy levels of demand as it recovers from its third wave of Covid-19.

Gasoline demand totalled 1.03 million mt with diesel at 2.49 million mt during the 1-15 July period, the data showed – figures that are equivalent to 583,000 bpd and 1.31 million bpd, respectively.

While the gasoline figure is up 14% on the first two weeks of June figures, against full June consumption of 626,000 bpd, demand is slightly down.

Diesel consumption was flat compared to the first two weeks of June, but down around 7.5% versus full month June.

Seasonal gasoline demand has now returned to pre-pandemic levels for the first time in months after the country curbed travel restrictions in regions in May to combat an outbreak of Covid-19.

Jet consumption in the first two weeks of the month was 68,000 bpd, up from the average of 60,000 bpd for June.
