Fire extinguished at Indonesian Cilacap refinery, Pertamina says no impact on supplies
London (Quantum Commodity Intelligence) – -Indonesia's state energy firm Pertamina said Sunday that it has extinguished a fire that broke out in a storage tank area at its refinery in Cilacap and that supplies were not impacted, according to ICIS.
The fire broke out late on Friday in tank area 39, the company said.
"This incident from the start had no impact on refinery operations or distribution of fuel and LPG. Everything is safe," Djoko Priyono, the president director of Pertamina International Refinery, told the chemical news company.
The fire "did not cause any problems for both the general public and consumers from the petrochemical industry," he added.
The 348,000 bbl/day Cilacap refinery is the largest of Pertamina's six refineries in Indonesia.
The company suffered a fire incident at its 125,000 bbl/day refinery in Balongan in March this year.
Following the Balongan fire, Pertamina said it would increase gasoline production at the Cilacap plant to help meet a shortfall caused by a storage-tank fire Balongan.
Cilacap said it would will increase its production of Pertalite gasoline by 20pc to 80,000 b/d and Pertamax Turbo by 50% to 5,000 b/d.
Pertamina's Pertamax Turbo grade has a minimum research octane number (Ron) of 98, while Pertalite has a minimum Ron rating of 90.
Indonesia is a regular importer of 92 RON and 88 RON gasoline.
