Bunker company Trefoil to offer 'clean' bunker fuel
Quantum Commodity Intelligence - Bunker supplier Trefoil has started offering carbon offsets alongside bunker fuel sales, the company announced Wednesday.
Buyers from Trefoil can buy offsets for between 10% and 100% of the carbon emissions from the fuel oil or diesel bunkers it offers.
"We already have customers asking for this," said a spokesperson for Trefoil.
Trefoil supplies marine fuel (0.5% sulfur), ultra-low sulfur marine fuel oil marine gasoil and diesel marine oil in northern European ports, such as ARA and Hamburg, and recently readded high sulfur fuel oil (HSFO) back to its portfolio.
The supplier initially stopped supplying HSFO in the run-up to the International Maritime Organisation's new sulfur limit in January 2020, which limits the sulfur content of bunker fuels to 0.5% unless the consuming vessel has scrubber technology.
